Metrics and Analytics: lj 3

This week's readings talked about RSS feeds and simplifying news consumption. Prior to this, I had no idea what RSS was. I had seen the logo before on different websites and just now made the connection. I learned that RSS brings together a summarized feed of relevant content instead of the user having to scroll through different articles and spend extra time looking at content that they may not like. The readings helped explain how simple it was to access RSS, and it is something I will likely implement into my own news feed to help shrink the time it would normally take to search for content. Additionally, I wasn't aware that Reddit and its subreddits met the qualifications of RSS. I use Reddit almost on a daily basis, so it was nice to see the content relating to something that I understand and know how to navigate. Different social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook have never been too appealing to me as I find it trickier to find content that I like and navigate through things that aren't as interesting to me. Going forward, I want to branch out and look for more ways to implement RSS into my online consumption, as it can streamline that process and prevent me from the bad habit of mindlessly scrolling through content that I am so accustomed to. In a professional sense, I can see how helpful this could be, as getting a targeted and streamlined feed of news and updates can be applied to so many different jobs and help people get the information they need in an accessible way.

  2. Hi Nathan! Before this reading I had no idea what RSS was or even meant. You brought up some great applications of RSS like using it for curated jobs and job notifications. With Reddit having so many different forms and subreddits I could see how an RSS feed would be very useful.
